In spring 2024, Utah Food Bank opened new food pantries in Blanding, Montezuma Creek and Monument Valley, expanding access to nutritious groceries for families throughout San Juan County. From the beginning, the organization has prioritized culturally meaningful foods and fresh produce to support the diverse needs of local households.
With support from the San Juan Clean Energy Foundation, Utah Food Bank has distributed more than 5,000 bags of beloved, locally sourced Blue Bird Flour, with more planned in the months ahead. This essential pantry staple remains one of the most requested items from community members. As Southeastern Distribution Center Director Ron Nielson shared, “Providing Blue Bird Flour has been wildly popular. It is wonderful when it is on our shelves because it almost single-handedly ensures our patrons leave happy.”

Since opening, the pantries have provided the equivalent of 1.9 million meals to food-insecure individuals throughout the region, including families within the Navajo Nation. The Foundation’s grant helps ensure that high-quality Blue Bird Flour remains consistently available, supporting 2,490 residents, including one in five children. Together, these efforts are strengthening long-term health, education and economic stability through reliable, culturally relevant nutrition.
